Floretina 2019: real time surgeries in concurrent countries
44 live 3D surgeries were streamed from 8 different hospitals around the globe. This cutting-edge congress provided the delegates an extraordinary learning and knowledge sharing opportunity.
The Floretina Meeting is an annual meeting dedicated to the ophthalmologist surgeon community who gather to share the very latest techniques and procedures at international level. The 2019 edition was marked by a higly-advanced educational experience thanks to live surgeries.
Imagine several operating rooms and surgeon teams opening up their daily surgeries to live streaming. The audience was able to interact with the surgeons as if they were in the surgery itself. Distances of 100’s and 1000’s of km were overcome. Delegates at the conference in Florence Italy were able to follow the entire surgery and even offer their contribution to solve sudden surgery challenges.
What made this experience even more unique was the fact that the surgeons were in different time zones and in countries as diverse as: Athens, Florence, Kuwait City, Lugano, Mexico City; Memphis and Tel Aviv. Images were streamed in high-quality 3D, giving a complete and very clear experience. The enthusiasm among physicians gathered for the Floretina Meeting was really high and the congress was very popular thanks to the powerful real-time learning offered.
AIM Group has been collaborating on this meeting since its first edition in 2015, supporting the start-up of this congress and contributing to position it as a reference point in the field (for more details on this you can read the dedicated Impact Story).
Since then, from meeting to meeting the event improved not only as regards to the recorded numbers but also from a qualitative point of view especially regarding the education experience offered to delegates.
Advanced technologies are crucial for such an innovative event but still they are not enough, they must be coupled with effective formats and networking opportunities which facilitate the conference outcomes. The scientific content must be very high. In 2019, 234 speakers were involved and 224 papers were presented, which is a very high number.
“Thanks to the long-standing collaboration with the client and with our suppliers, we are continuously striving to raise the bar and give the participants more value and unique experiences. As event organisers this is our daily mission!” says Francesca Manzani, head of Florence Office AIM Group International.
