Successful inaugural Labsummit 2024: A landmark event for the laboratory industry
From 16 to 18 May 2024, the Convento de São Francisco in Coimbra hosted the first edition of Labsummit, a landmark event for the laboratory industry. The three-day summit brought together 1.000 attendees from around the world and set a high standard for future editions.
Labsummit 2024, the brainchild of a consortium of three clients including AMBIDATA, RELACRE and ISQ, aimed to address the trends and challenges facing the laboratory sector. This fully face-to-face event was co-organised by AIM Group International and provided an inspiring environment for professionals to update their knowledge, share insights, build partnerships and drive the industry forward. The scientific programme revolved around four key pillars: Sustainability, Productivity, Laboratory innovation and Digital transformation.
Plenary sessions benefited from AI-powered translation services, improving accessibility for international attendees.
In addition to plenary and breakout sessions, Labsummit featured interactive workshops, hands-on sessions and pitches.
The 764 square metre exhibition area was a hub of activity. Exhibitors showcased their materials, allowing attendees to engage directly with new technologies. Attendees explored cutting-edge technology solutions, including 3D printers and virtual reality applications.
Discovering the cultural heritage
To round off the immersive experience, participants were invited to explore the historic city of Coimbra. Two cultural programmes were offered:
– The Santa Clara Train Tour;
– A guided tour of the University Palace.
These excursions provided a unique opportunity for networking and cultural exchange, highlighting Coimbra’s rich heritage.
A sustainable conference
Labsummit 2024 prioritised sustainability with several initiatives:
– Water refill stations to minimise plastic waste
– Use of paper cups for drinks
– QR code-based check-in to reduce paper consumption
In addition, leftover lunch boxes and event materials were donated to local CSR institutions to reduce waste and support the community. Volunteers from professional tourism schools were also involved, gaining valuable experience and training.
Labsummit 2024 was not just an event, but a milestone for the laboratory industry, connecting professionals, showcasing innovation and promoting sustainable practices. The event attracted strong interest from the scientific community and the market, with 1.000 attendees and 53 sponsors supporting the first edition of the summit.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the importance of such events in fostering industry links and knowledge sharing. The success of Labsummit 2024 underlined its role as a vital platform for the laboratory sector and set a precedent for future conferences.
The choice of Coimbra as the venue highlighted the potential of smaller cities to host major international events, contributing to their visibility and economic growth.
AIM Group received a warm thank you from the client at the closing ceremony and an announcement for the next Labsummit in 2026.
